HISTORY OF TARA
|
The Texas Association
of Rental Agencies was organized and chartered in 1983, by a

it is the largest state rental / purchase association in the
nation.
|
In
contemplation of the growth of this newly developed business,
the original organizers worked with the goal of passing information
to one another and to develop an educational
background for members, law makers,
and law enforcement, along

with a full disclosure
of business procedures to the general public. The very next meeting
of the state
legislature introduced a bill that would prohibit
the workings of the theory of the rental / purchase process, pertaining
especially to household furnishings. |
|
The organizers of TARA, along with legal representation, met with the
House of Representatives members who were sponsors of this legislation.
After much discussion, persuasion and education of the actual need by
the consumer, and the benefits this type of business could offer the
general public, the legislative sponsors agreed to introduce several
amendments to House Bill 2219 producing a satisfactory piece of legislation
for all parties concerned. |
|
|
|
|
Following this accomplishment, it was
determined that the association must remain legislation-oriented to
protect the membership's interests, and this goal has been diligently
achieved. Education and information such as legal interpretations,
business tips, bookkeeping tips, and general knowledge of the business,
are disseminated through seminars, conventions, the TARA newsletter,
as well as periodic mailings for the benefit of its members.
|
|
In these complicated days, it is essential
that small businesses join together. With the combined strength of
every rental / purchase dealer in the state of Texas, we will more
effectively represent our business to the general public, government
agencies and law enforcement entities. |
